
Official Rules
1) All entrants must complete and sign a copy of the Two Day Film Challenge Liability Waiver Form. If under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign on behalf of the entrant.
2) All costs associated with the production are solely the responsibility of the entrant.
3) Team representatives must be present at the designated times of specified events to participate. Failure of at least one team member to appear at the opening-night orientation will render the team ineligible.
4) By submitting an entry into the Two Day Film Challenge, each entrant warrants and represents that the entrant owns all rights to the entry he/she is entering in the contest, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each entry. Each entrant further warrants and represents that the entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the entry to grant the rights described in these official rules.
5) By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold the Two Day Film Challenge and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the "Project Indemnitees"), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Project Indemnitees due to or arising out of the entrant's project materials, or the entrant's conduct during and in connection with this competition, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation. The entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless TDFC and the project parties from any and all claims that any advertising, presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of TDFC or the project parties infringes on the rights of the entrant's work.
6) Entries will be judged by a process in which a qualified panel of judges will evaluate each eligible entry based on the following criteria: Creativity, Technical Merit, Adherence to the Assignment.
7) The Two Day Film Challenge will occur between a designated Friday, beginning at 7pm local time, and the following Sunday, concluding at 7pm local time.
8) Each participating group must complete its entry in time to deliver it to a specified location no later than Sunday, at 7pm. Only works that meet the deadline will be eligible for judging and awards.
9) During the specified 48-hour period, all creative work will take place, including but not limited to: screenwriting, rehearsal, costume and set design, principle photography, editing, audio recording and post-production, outputting to tape or DVD.
10) The only work that is permitted prior to the official Friday kickoff is: assembling cast and crew, scouting locations, securing equipment.
11) All footage must be shot within the specified 48-hour period. No stock footage or previously-shot footage is allowed. Animation is permitted, but must be produced during the official 48-hour period.
12) Each group will be assigned a genre, based on random drawing, at the Friday kickoff event. In addition, groups will be assigned required elements, which must appear in their films. These may include, but are not limited to, chartacters, props, locations and lines of dialogue.
13) If required characters, locations or props are specified, they must be seen, on-screen.
14) Required lines of dialogue may be spoken or written, but must be clear.
15) All cast and crew must be volunteers.
16) The finished movie must be submitted on a functioning tape (DVCAM or VHS) or DVD. If the tape or disc cannot be read by the provided equipment, the project will be disqualified.
17) Tape-based projects should contain, in the following order: 5 seconds of bars and tone; 5 seconds of black; a title card, including: team name, date, title, genre; 2 seconds of black; the movie.
18) If shot in a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9, for example), the entry should be letter-boxed prior to output.
19) All required paperwork must be submitted, along with the final project, prior to the official deadline. This paperwork includes a team roster and liability waiver forms for each member.
20) To be eligible, entries must be the original work of the entrant; must not infringe upon third-party's rights; must be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent); must not contain obscene or pornographic material; may not contain defamatory statements about any person, company, organization or entity; may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity; may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations; and may not contain any copyrighted elements (other than as owned by the entrant and/or TDFC). Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by the TDFC, in its sole discretion, will be disqualified. TDFC reserves the right to make the final determination as to which entries are eligible.
21) Participating groups are encouraged to work with a composer and/or musicians to write and record music for the films, or to secure music from an appropriate music library. It is permissible for a participating group to use other pre-recorded music; however the participating group must have the rights to any music used in its film.
22) The Two Day Film Challenge may add to or amend these rules at any time prior to the beginning of the official 48-hour production period.
